Lake Bomoseen · The unglamorous list

Groceries, gas, urgent care.

The list nobody Instagrams. Where to grocery-shop on a Saturday afternoon. Which gas station's open at 11. Where the pharmacy is at six on a Sunday. The closest urgent care if the kid hits the dock the wrong way.

We list the boring stuff so the vacation works.

Grocery & provisions

2 listed
  • Fair Haven
    Shaw's — Fair Haven
    Editor's pick

Full-service grocery on Route 22A North in Fair Haven, near Castleton University and about fifteen minutes from the lake's west shore — deli, bakery, a butcher counter, and a floral department, open seven to nine every day of the week. The provisioning run for a week at the lake; Hannaford in Rutland is bigger but costs another ten minutes each way.

  • Rutland
    Hannaford — Rutland

Larger-format grocery in the Green Mountain Shopping Plaza on South Main Street in Rutland, about twenty minutes from the lake — deeper produce and prepared-food sections than Fair Haven's Shaw's, worth the extra drive for a real stock-up rather than a top-off. Easy to pair with dinner downtown instead of treating it as a standalone errand.

Gas, EV & laundry

  • Castleton
    Castleton CITGO Deli & Gas
    Editor's pick

Gas and a deli counter on Route 4A at the edge of Castleton village — the reliable fill-up between the lake and Route 4, open early most mornings and late most nights. Fair pricing and closer than anything actually on the water.

    Mon 5am–8:30pm · Tue–Sat 6am–10pm · Sun 7am–9pm
  • Bomoseen
    Mobil — Bomoseen

The gas station actually on Route 30 in the village of Bomoseen — worth knowing about because options thin out fast heading north along the lake's east shore toward Hubbardton. Fill up here rather than assuming there's another stop before Route 4.

Urgent care & pharmacy

3 listed
  • Rutland
Rutland Regional Medical Center — Emergency Department
    Editor's pick

Twenty-four-hour emergency department in downtown Rutland, about twenty to twenty-five minutes from most Bomoseen addresses — the only full hospital anywhere near the lake. Save the address before it's needed; nothing closer exists between Fair Haven and Rutland.

    24-hour ER
  • Rutland
    ClearChoiceMD Urgent Care — Rutland

Walk-in urgent care on South Main Street in Rutland — the twisted ankle, the fishhook, the sunburn past what aloe can fix. Faster than the Rutland Regional emergency room for anything that isn't life-threatening.

  • Fair Haven
    Walgreens — Fair Haven
    Editor's pick

Pharmacy with a drive-up window on Route 22A North in Fair Haven, the closest chain pharmacy to the lake's west shore. Not twenty-four hours — call ahead for a late refill instead of driving over and finding the counter closed.
