What is Wild Horse Island?
A 2,160-acre state park island, the largest on Flathead Lake, accessible only by boat — open grasslands and ponderosa pine forest home to wild bighorn sheep, mule deer, bald eagles, and a small band of feral horses. Day-use only, no pets.

Where can I rent a boat at Flathead Lake?
Marina Cay Resort covers the north shore out of Bigfork Bay. Flathead Boat Company, a family-owned operation on Highway 93 South, covers Polson at the lake's south end with hourly and daily rentals.
How was Flathead Lake formed?
It's a remnant of glacial Lake Missoula, formed by glacial damming of the Flathead River. As the ice retreated roughly 12,000 years ago, it left behind the natural basin that meltwater and the Flathead River system have fed ever since.

When's the best time to visit Flathead Lake?
