Wisconsin's deepest lake. A 1930 golf course on its own shore.
Green Lake bottoms out at 237 feet, the deepest natural inland lake in Wisconsin — deep enough that the water stays cold and clear long after the state's shallower lakes have gone tepid.
Green Lake, in Green Lake County, is Wisconsin's deepest natural inland lake, ringed by the City of Green Lake on the north and east shores and the 900-acre Green Lake Conference Center estate on the west, with Judson Tower's 1908 water tower as the landmark. Ripon, eight miles east and home to Ripon College, carries the area's second cluster of restaurants, a brewery, and a winery. The lake reads couples-and-golf more than family-boardwalk — the Golf Courses of Lawsonia, a pair of nationally ranked 18-hole courses from 1930, anchor the west shore, and Oakwood Restaurant at the Heidel House Hotel is the area's signature waterfront dinner room. Dodge Memorial County Park on the west end is the one genuinely kid-forward stop, with a shallow swim beach built for small children.
