Lake Charlevoix · An honest list

Wineries worth the drive.

We don't list every winery — we list the ones that are doing something the wine itself can vouch for. The pours where the producer is in the tasting room. The hillsides where the view does half the work. The pet-nat experiments and the serious Rieslings.

Click through, taste through. Names, not adjectives.

  • Petoskey corridor
    Boyne Valley Vineyards

A family-run vineyard about fifteen minutes from Boyne City, backed by a 113-acre nature preserve with trails that connect straight off the tasting patio. The walk-out treehouse deck is the seat to ask for — vineyard views on one side, woods on the other. Tastings run four wines for fifteen dollars, except during weekend live music, when it switches to wine by the glass only. Igloo and teepee rentals in winter, by reservation.

  • Charlevoix (north shore)
    Blu Dot Farm & Vineyard
    Editor's pick

Fifty acres between Lake Charlevoix and Lake Michigan, with an eight-acre vineyard planted mostly to cold-hardy varieties like Marquette and Frontenac Gris that actually survive a northern Michigan winter. The tasting room is a converted vintage Airstream parked next to an indoor wine bar, with a bonfire and yard games for anyone staying past one glass. Wine slushies run through summer. The estate only started planting in 2019, so this is still a young vineyard finding its footing.
