What is the history of Lake Glenville?
Built in 1941 by Nantahala Power and Light, then ALCOA-owned, to generate hydroelectric power for wartime aluminum production. The dam flooded the entire valley north of Cashiers to a depth of 300 feet, submerging the original town of Glenville — it was officially named Thorpe Reservoir from 1951 to 2002.

Where can I rent a boat at Lake Glenville?
Signal Ridge Marina, the only marina directly on the lake, rents pontoons, tritoons, canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards April through September, plus waterfall cruises to falls only reachable by boat. Lakeshore Marina, under recent new ownership, is the other rental option.
Is there a public beach at Lake Glenville?
Yes — the Pines Recreation Area, near the dam's north end, has a free sandy mountain beach with a swim area, fishing pier, and picnic tables. Two other free public access points nearby add a boat launch and a second fishing pier.
