The list nobody Instagrams. Where to grocery-shop on a Saturday afternoon. Which gas station's open at 11. Where the pharmacy is at six on a Sunday. The closest urgent care if the kid hits the dock the wrong way.
We list the boring stuff so the vacation works.
Family-owned on the same stretch of West Shore Road since 1960, and the longest-running business in the Newfound region — 81 years and counting. Full grocery, a Boar's Head deli, a butcher counter, and homemade fudge inside; the seasonal Seafood Shack out back does lobster rolls and soft-serve, open daily except Tuesday. This is the provisioning stop and the ice-cream stop in one trip.
A full grocery-and-catering operation on Route 3A that also sells bait, Fish & Game licenses, and clothing, and runs the lake's only 24-hour gas pumps. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner come out of the same kitchen, and a set of golf simulators opened in back for the off-season crowd. Open 5 a.m. most days — the earliest coffee on the lake.
The general store on Hebron's town common, family-run with a deli counter for picnic sandwiches and baked goods alongside the grocery shelves. It's the only retail in Hebron proper, which makes it the default stop for anyone staying on the quiet north end — snowmobilers and cyclists treat it the same way in the off-season.
The hardware stop on Lake Street for anything the rental didn't pack — grill parts, a replacement dock cleat, propane, tools for the inevitable small repair. Standard Ace inventory, nothing lake-specific about it, but it's the only one in town and it covers what it needs to.
Bristol's in-town gas station on Lake Street, the easiest fill-up before or after a day on the water and close enough to Central Square to pair with a coffee run. For a 24-hour pump instead, Newfound Country Store up in Bridgewater is the other option — Gulf keeps more conventional daytime hours.
Full-service small-animal practice on Pleasant Street, serving Grafton County for more than twenty years under Dr. Jill Prince. Wellness exams, surgery, and grooming — the address worth saving before a hiking or paddling trip with the dog, even if you don't expect to need it.
The nearest full emergency department, about fifteen minutes from Bristol in Plymouth. There's no hospital or urgent-care clinic in any of the four lake towns themselves, so this is the address to have saved — cell coverage gets thin on the water and on the trails toward Cardigan.
