French Lick Municipal Airport handles general aviation only. Louisville International (SDF) is the nearest with regular commercial service, a little over an hour southeast — most visitors fly into Louisville and drive.

Is Patoka Lake near French Lick Resort?
Yes — French Lick and West Baden Springs sit about ten miles north, home to the historic French Lick Springs Hotel and West Baden Springs Hotel, plus the area's casino and a wider restaurant selection than the lake itself has.
What is the West Baden Springs Hotel dome?
A 200-foot atrium dome completed in 1902, once the world's largest free-span dome and hailed nationally as the "Eighth Wonder of the World." It held that record until Houston's Astrodome in the 1960s, and its design influenced later domed stadiums.
Is there a winery near Patoka Lake?
French Lick Winery, in West Baden Springs, pours more than 30 wines with guided $6 tastings and also runs the Spirit of French Lick Distillery — about ten miles north of the lake.

Yes — Patoka Lake Marina & Lodging at Newton-Stewart rents houseboats, double-decker pontoons, and floating cabins, checked in at the on-water Floating Store. Houseboating is the lake's signature activity.
Is there a public boat launch at Patoka Lake?
Yes — Newton-Stewart State Recreation Area on the east side has the main public launch and campground. The swim beach there was closed for high water as of late August 2026; check current conditions before a visit.

When's the best time to visit Patoka Lake?
