The biggest lake fully inside Pennsylvania. A houseboat fleet, not a wine trail.
Raystown is the largest lake entirely within Pennsylvania — an 8,300-acre reservoir the Army Corps of Engineers built in 1973, run by a houseboat fleet and a paddlewheel showboat rather than a resort-town Main Street.
Raystown Lake is an 8,300-acre reservoir in Huntingdon County, formed in 1973 when the Army Corps of Engineers dammed the Raystown Branch Juniata River — the largest lake entirely within Pennsylvania's borders. Huntingdon, at the north end, is the real town: the hospital, the grocery store, and a real downtown restaurant row on Penn Street. Seven Points and Entriken, on the lake itself, are recreation-area and resort clusters — Seven Points Marina, Pennsylvania's largest, has rented houseboats and dock slips since 1976, and Lake Raystown Resort Marina runs the Proud Mary paddlewheel showboat out of its own docks. Lincoln Caverns, a show cave open year-round, is the area's rainy-day answer. This reads as a group-and-family lake built around houseboating and camping rather than a quiet couples retreat — closer to a national-forest recreation area than a Finger Lakes-style resort town.
