The full grocery store for the lake — bakery, deli, produce, meat and seafood counters, and an in-store pharmacy, open 7am to 9pm daily. It's the only supermarket actually on the lake rather than a 25-minute drive out to Clare or Roscommon, which makes it the default provisioning stop for anyone renting a cottage and cooking their own meals for the week.
A female-owned bait shop off W. Houghton Lake Drive stocking live minnows, crawlers, and ribbon leeches — the stop before a walleye morning or an ice-fishing weekend, when whatever's in the gas station cooler doesn't cut it. Small, specific, and exactly the kind of shop a fishing lake this size actually needs more of.
A convenience store and bait shop on W. Houghton Lake Drive — the forgot-the-cooler-ice, forgot-the-sunscreen stop that also happens to sell bait, with a five-star Yelp record built on a small but loyal customer base. Easier to swing by than driving all the way to Family Fare for one item.
A local True Value on W. Houghton Lake Drive — building materials, paint, electrical and plumbing parts, lawn and garden supplies — for whatever cottage-repair problem shows up every rental week. Open Monday through Saturday until 6, with shorter Sunday hours, and a lot closer than the big-box hardware stores 25 minutes out in Clare.
A 24-hour Marathon station and convenience store on W. Houghton Lake Drive in Prudenville — the reliable fill-up regardless of what time the boat gets back to the dock or the drive in from Grayling runs late. Worth knowing about specifically because most of the strip's other gas stations keep far more ordinary daytime hours.
Walk-in urgent care on W. Houghton Lake Drive in Prudenville, open Monday through Saturday, 7am to 7pm — part of a larger Munson campus that also runs family medicine, imaging, lab work, and rehab services out of the same building. The right call for anything that isn't a true emergency; save the drive to Grayling for that.
The nearest full, 24-hour hospital emergency room — about 25 miles east in Grayling, roughly 30 minutes via M-55 and I-75, right off the same exit most visitors use coming up from Detroit or Flint. For anything the Prudenville urgent care can't handle, this is the drive. Worth saving the address before a trip rather than searching for it mid-emergency.
