The list nobody Instagrams. Where to grocery-shop on a Saturday afternoon. Which gas station's open at 11. Where the pharmacy is at six on a Sunday. The closest urgent care if the kid hits the dock the wrong way.
We list the boring stuff so the vacation works.
The real supermarket for a Lake Memphremagog stay, on Waterfront Plaza a few steps from Rite Aid — this is the provisioning run, not a convenience-store substitute. Do the big shop here on the way in rather than after unloading the car; parking at Waterfront Plaza gets tight on a Saturday morning in summer when half of Newport is running the same errand.
The forgot-something stop when Newport's small commercial core doesn't have a dedicated hardware or general store — phone chargers, basic tools, paper goods, the stuff that doesn't justify a special trip. Not a substitute for a real hardware run, but it covers more of the gap here than it would in a bigger town, since nothing closer fills that role.
Regional gas-and-convenience chain on Main Street — the reliable fill-up spot in Newport proper, with the usual coffee, snacks, and lottery counter. Not a destination, but it's open long hours and it's the one most renters end up using on the way in from the highway.
Gas and convenience on the east side of Newport, useful if a rental sits closer to Derby than downtown and doubling back to Main Street for a tank of gas is a waste of an evening. Nothing distinguishes it beyond the location, which is exactly the point.
The Northeast Kingdom's real hospital, on Prouty Drive in Newport and the city's largest employer — a full-service critical access hospital with an emergency department, not a walk-in clinic standing in for one. Save the address before a boating accident or a bad fall on the dock; this is the closest real ER for the entire lake, on either side of the border.
Chain pharmacy at Waterfront Plaza, a few doors from Vista Food — the reliable option for a prescription refill or the thing you forgot to pack. Fill anything time-sensitive before arriving if it's outside normal pharmacy hours; there's no 24-hour pharmacy anywhere near Lake Memphremagog.
Independent pharmacy in Derby Line, a couple of minutes from the Haskell Free Library — the option if you're already on the border side of the lake and don't want to drive back into downtown Newport for a prescription. Smaller than Rite Aid, but it's an actual neighborhood drugstore rather than a chain counter.
