Where the people who live here eat.

The bar that doesn't advertise. The Tuesday-night dinner you'd never find by Googling. The donut shop that sells out by ten.

Restaurants

4 stops
  • Belmont
    J&J's Yolk & Co.

Family-run breakfast counter at the corner of Routes 106 and 140, open mornings only — 7 to 2, Monday through Friday, no dinner service at all. The lobster Benedict is the one worth the wait; the Irish Benedict is the one regulars order without looking at the menu. Small dining room, closes for good by early afternoon, so plan the boat launch around it, not after it.

    Mon–Fri 7am–2pm, closed weekends$(603) 267-7748
  • Laconia
    Water Street Cafe
    Editor's pick

Breakfast-and-lunch room on Water Street, a short walk from the WOW Trail trailhead, regularly voted the Lakes Region's best breakfast by local readers. Open from 7 a.m. and closed by early afternoon — 1 p.m. on Sundays — so this is a morning move, not a dinner one. Dog-friendly seating in season; order off the sandwich board, not just the omelet list.

    Mon–Thu & Sat 7am–2pm, Sun 7am–1pm, closed Fri$(603) 524-4144
  • Laconia
    The Flip Side

Breakfast-and-lunch room on Main Street that opened to fill the gap left when the longtime Soda Shoppe closed — some regulars still call it by the old name. Straightforward diner cooking, table service, open into early afternoon most days with extended hours on Fridays. About a five-minute walk from Veterans Square for anyone parked downtown for the WOW Trail.

  • Belmont
    Jordan's Ice Creamery
    Editor's pick

Family-run ice cream stand on Laconia Road that has been hand-making its own product for more than three decades — long enough to predate most of the newer stands up toward Winnipesaukee. No frills, walk-up window, picnic tables out front. Cash moves fastest through the after-beach line on a hot Saturday.

Coffee & breakfast

1 stop
  • Laconia
    Wayfarer Coffee Roasters
    Editor's pick

Local roaster with two rooms five minutes apart — downtown on Main Street and a second location in Lakeport near the WOW Trail trailhead — each running its own food specialties on the same house-roasted beans. Nitro, cold brew, made-to-order breakfast sandwiches. The downtown location closes by 4; check which one is open before making the trip.

Breweries

  • Laconia
    Defiant Records & Craft Beer
    Editor's pick

Downtown Laconia storefront next to the Colonial Theatre where a rotating tap list of New England craft beer shares the room with crates of vinyl. Opened in 2021 by a husband-and-wife team — his records, her beer — and it still runs an open-mic comedy night and a Sunday morning session most weeks. Closed Sunday and Monday; the small room fills fast on live-music nights.
